The 2023 49ers season was something special. This season was one that was full of Hope and We had a lot of expectations going into it. The previous year we lost to the Eagles in the NFC championship. The only reason we really lost is because Brock Purdy tour his mcl and we didn’t have a quarterback to play the rest of that game. so we looked absolutely incredible this year and everybody expected us to win it all. but that’s a lot of pressure for one team. so the question was was the 2023 49ers going to live up to the hype or not.
Roster
In 2023, we were stacked across the board. Brock Purdy stepped up at quarterback, leading us with poise, while Christian McCaffrey was a dynamic weapon in the backfield. Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk were explosive in the passing game, with George Kittle as a reliable threat. Defensively, Nick Bosa anchored a dominant line, with Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead applying constant pressure. Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw led a strong linebacker group, while Charvarius Ward locked down the secondary. We were one of the most complete teams in the NFL.

Season
We started off the season 5-0 and everything was looking great. We were one of the only teams in the league that were undefeated. During week 6 we would get absolutely humbled by the Cleveland Browns and lose shockingly. we would go on a rough stretch and hit a three-game losing streak up until the bye week. This was the moment where we really started hitting our stride. we would win six games in a row and would only lose to the Baltimore Ravens. would sweep the NFC West going 6-0 in conference Division play. and would walk out 12 and 5 at the top of the NFC.
Divisional
With the bye week up first we were hopeful to see that the Green Bay Packers with the young inexperienced team was first to play in this year’s playoffs. This game was one of the most stressful games I’ve ever had as a 49ers fan. This was the game that Jordan Love showed that he was a cat High Caliber NFL quarterback. This meant that we had to step up. the game would end up being 14 to 21 going into the fourth in the 4th. With a Brock Purdy touchdown and a field goal we would be up. which meant the Packers had to respond. with 2 minutes to go we ended up getting a stop with Greenlaw getting the game winning interception.
NFC Championship
Batman we were headed to the NFC Championship Game where we would face off against the Lions at home. I think most of us expected to clean sweep these guys. So the fact that they scored first and looked to be in complete control when the game started was terrifying. We really hadn’t seen this much level of energy from a team in the NFC ever. it would end up getting so bad that we would end the first half at 24 to 7. At this moment I thought it was all over and I was so ready to give up. This was when the legend of ba and the catch 3 was born. This propelled us to score 24 unanswered points and they had lost all momentum. They would tie up the game with a touchdown but it wouldn’t matter because a field goal would put us over the hump and we would win the game 34 to 31.
Super Bowl
This is where we would rematch the chiefs in the super bowl again. From the start something fell off. It felt like we had to do everything just to get scraps. with CMC fumbling then scoring lots of touchdowns just for them to answer. Whatever the case was, we were up and we thought we were going to win. but Dre Greenlaw would tear his ACL on the sideline being excited. we’re going to stop right here because this is really where the game ended for us. if the NFL cared about their players and would just switch the grass we would be super bowl champions that year. Travis Kelsey was having the worst game of his life in the Super Bowl against us because Dre was locking him down. It hurts so much to think we were this close and we also made a series of dumb decisions to end up losing. This is why 2023 is one of the most disappointing seasons of all time.
