2019 San Francisco 49ers Season

The 2019 49ers season was something special. For about the past 5 years we had been rebuilding our team. with the great draft in store and Jimmy G looking like the future in San Fran. We were ready to take on the 2019 season. With no real expectations at all we were hoping to see better than the previous four win season.

Roster

In 2019, we were stacked with talent on both sides of the ball. Jimmy Garoppolo led our offense, with Raheem Mostert emerging as a dynamic running back, supported by Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida. Our receiving corps, featuring Emmanuel Sanders and Deebo Samuel, was complemented by George Kittle, who provided a huge mismatch at tight end. Defensively this was probably the most dominate team we had in years . Led by rookie Nick Bosa and DeForest Buckner on the line, with Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw making key plays at linebacker. Richard Sherman anchored our solid secondary. This mix of explosive offense and stifling defense powered us all the way to a Super Bowl appearance.

We started off the season strong, and by midseason, we were 8-0. Everything was clicking. The defense was shutting teams down, the offense was running smoothly, and we were beating teams in dominant fashion. Jimmy was playing well, and the running game was unstoppable. Raheem Mostert was running wild, and the defense was making life miserable for quarterbacks. We were one of the best teams in the league, and it felt like we could go all the way.

We ended the regular season with a 13-3 record and secured the number one seed in the NFC. We had the bye week, and everything was looking great. We knew the road to the Super Bowl wouldn’t be easy, but we had all the confidence in the world. We had the most complete team in the league, and we were ready to show everyone we could get the job done.

Divisional Round

Our playoff journey began with a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. We were at home, and we came out swinging. The defense was on fire, and the offense did just enough to get the job done. Raheem Mostert was the star of the game, rushing for 220 yards and 4 touchdowns. It was an absolute clinic, and we won 27-10. We were one step closer to our Super Bowl dreams, and it felt like we were hitting our stride.

NFC Championship Game

Next, we had the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers was always a threat, but our defense was playing at an elite level. We dominated this game from start to finish. The Packers couldn’t get anything going, and our offense took care of business. Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t asked to do much, but when he needed to step up, he did. We won 37-20 and were headed to the Super Bowl. It was a moment of pure joy, and we knew we had one more game to go.

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl was set, and we were facing the Kansas City Chiefs. The game started off well for us. We were up 20-10 with less than 10 minutes left in the game, and it seemed like we were in control. The defense was holding up, and it looked like we were going to walk away with a win. But then Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs turned it on. They scored 21 unanswered points, and we couldn’t respond. The Chiefs won 31-20, and just like that, our Super Bowl dreams were shattered. This was the last time we would play in a Super Bowl that wasn’t rigged. Thinking about this team makes me cry every night. I seriously thought this team could’ve done it.
